Salesforce in Richmond at a glance
We implement Salesforce for Greater Richmond insurers and agencies, banks, distributors and manufacturers. Most projects put Salesforce above long-running policy, core or ERP systems, so integration design takes up much of the early work.
How Richmond firms use Salesforce
Insurance runs deep in Richmond. Markel Group and Genworth Financial both appear on Greater Richmond Partnership's Fortune 1000 list, and the partnership's finance and insurance roster also includes Kinsale Capital Group and Allianz Partners. Specialty and commercial carriers here deal with brokers more than consumers, so Salesforce typically holds broker and producer relationships, submissions and service requests, while the policy administration system stays the record for coverage and premium. Agencies take a similar approach with Applied Epic. Banks use Financial Services Cloud for commercial and private banking relationships, with summaries pulled from the core.
Manufacturing is the largest sector by metro GDP, and distribution is close behind in importance: Performance Food Group, the region's top Fortune 1000 company, is a food wholesaler, and Accendra Health is a health care wholesaler. Distributors and manufacturers selling to them use Sales Cloud for account plans, quotes and rebate programs, linked to the ERP through MuleSoft, and Experience Cloud for customers who want to check orders themselves. Health care rounds out the mix, with VCU Health running an academic medical center downtown. Health organizations and benefits firms use Service Cloud for intake and member questions under strict access rules. In each case the build starts with which system owns which field.

How a Salesforce engagement runs
Insurance and distribution builds usually run 10-16 weeks, and Financial Services Cloud projects 8-16 weeks, depending on the number of source systems. Senior consultants run discovery and build remotely from Dallas, and the integration contract between systems is agreed before configuration starts.

Salesforce in Richmond: questions, answered
We're a specialty carrier that works only through brokers. What belongs in Salesforce?
Broker firms and individual producers, appointments and licensing status, submissions and their status, service requests and production summaries. Policy, rating and billing stay in your policy administration system, with key fields synced back so underwriters and marketing reps see premium and loss history on the broker record. Submission intake is often the quickest win: email and portal submissions land as Salesforce records and route to the right underwriter by line and territory.
Can Salesforce manage rebates and pricing agreements for a distributor?
It can track them, and the ERP usually calculates them. We model contracts, pricing agreements and rebate tiers in Salesforce so sales reps see where each customer stands against its targets, while the ERP stays the source of invoiced volume. Conga can generate agreement documents from Salesforce, and DocuSign handles signatures. Reps then have a reason to open the CRM every day, which helps adoption more than any training session.
How do you handle audit requirements during a Salesforce rollout?
We treat them as requirements from the start. Field history tracking on sensitive fields, a documented permission model, change control through sandboxes and release notes, and login and access reports your auditors can pull themselves. For banks and carriers we also record design decisions, such as why a field is visible to a role, so the next review doesn't depend on someone remembering. These cost little to build at the start and a lot to retrofit.
