HubSpotSalesforce Financial Services CloudUsing both

Short answer

HubSpot is a customer platform that connects marketing, sales and service teams, with a financial services offering that covers prospecting, client relationships and retention. Salesforce Financial Services Cloud is Salesforce's industry CRM for banking, wealth and insurance, with wealth features such as household metrics, relationship maps, financial accounts and action plans. Firms that lead with marketing and a simple advisor workflow often look at HubSpot. Firms with complex households, several custodians or heavy supervision often look at Financial Services Cloud. Some firms use both, connected by HubSpot's Salesforce integration.

What each vendor says it does for wealth firms

  • HubSpot describes its financial services platform as connecting marketing, advisory and service teams. For wealth and asset management, HubSpot lists personalized content and sequences triggered by financial milestones and life events, and deal pipelines built for long advisory cycles. On security, HubSpot lists role-based access controls, field-level permissions, Sensitive Data properties and audit logging, and points to its Trust Center.
  • Salesforce Financial Services Cloud is described as unifying data from core banking, wealth and insurance platforms around the customer. Salesforce says it is used by wealth management firms, RIAs, broker dealers and investment managers. Its wealth pages show household metrics, relationship maps, integrated client financial accounts and workflow automation through prebuilt action plans. Salesforce also offers Financial Services Cloud for Advisors, which comes pre-configured.

Which fits when

HubSpot fits when

Growth comes from marketing, referrals and content. Advisors want a simple daily workflow. Your household and account structures are straightforward, and you want marketing, sales and service in one system that a small operations team can run.

Financial Services Cloud fits when

You have complex households, trusts and entities, several custodians, or several offices with different roles. Supervision and recordkeeping drive your design. You want custodian and portfolio data on financial accounts inside the CRM.

Both fit when

Marketing wants HubSpot and operations needs Financial Services Cloud as the client record. HubSpot handles campaigns and prospects, Salesforce holds households and accounts, and the integration keeps contacts and pipeline in step. Decide early which system owns each field.

Questions to ask either vendor

How will our households, entities and financial accounts be modeled? Which custodians and planning tools connect today? What do our compliance and recordkeeping rules need from the CRM? What will licences, onboarding and support cost at our headcount in year three?

Migration notes

  • From an advisor CRM. Many of the firms we talk to are leaving Redtail, Junxure, Wealthbox, Salentica Elements or Ebix SmartOffice. Clean households and duplicates first. Export activity history and documents early, since they take the longest to move and check.
  • Map households before you pick. Write down how a typical household, trust and business owner client looks today. Then ask each vendor to show that structure in their product. This one exercise settles a lot of the decision.
  • List every integration. Custodians, portfolio management, planning, document signing and email archiving each need a plan in the new system.
  • Running both. If you keep Salesforce and add HubSpot, or the reverse, set sync rules and field ownership before the first sync. See our migration paths, including Redtail to Financial Services Cloud.
