The situation
First Lien Capital had an acquisition to announce and about 12,000 contacts to tell. Their HubSpot plan was Sales Hub Professional plus Starter hubs, and marketing contacts were capped at 1,000. The announcement could not go out the way they needed it to, and nobody on the team had the hours to rebuild their email setup first.
James Dishroom, their HubSpot growth specialist, had already worked with them on an AEO trial. He saw the trigger: a dated event, a contact count well above the cap, and a customer who would only judge Marketing Hub Professional on real work. He brought in Vantage Point.
How the trial ran
The trial started on August 12 and followed five steps.
- Trigger. James spotted the announcement and the contact gap and asked us to join the first discovery call.
- Discovery on one business moment. We anchored the trial on the acquisition announcement and asked for contact counts early, because the count sets the HubSpot price.
- Punch list in 24 hours, then the build. We sent a clear 30-day goal, checkpoints and an out-of-scope list, then built in First Lien's own portal at no cost. That included connecting their sending domain, segmenting the list and building the announcement campaign.
- Midpoint review on real data. James joined the call. The announcement had gone out, and we worked through the replies together.
- Decision before the trial ended. James sent a right-sized quote and we sent a small onboarding scope with it. Everything we built stayed in the portal whatever they decided.
Results
- 10,828 emails delivered in the announcement campaign.
- 1,075 opens and 143 clicks on the first send.
- 345 auto-replies reviewed with Claude connected to HubSpot, which led to about 230 contact records fixed.
- 46 new contacts created from replies.
- Marketing Hub Professional signed on day 36 (September 17 and 18), at the 12,000 contact tier rather than 17,000, on monthly billing, with a 10-hour onboarding block alongside it.
Who did what
HubSpot (James Dishroom): spotted the trigger, activated the trial, joined the midpoint review and sent the quote. Vantage Point: ran discovery, wrote the punch list, built the campaign in First Lien's portal, cleaned the records from the replies and scoped the onboarding. First Lien Capital: picked the moment, approved the list and the message, and sent the announcement.
Why it worked
The trial had a real job to do. First Lien did not sit through a feature tour. They sent a live announcement to their whole list from the platform they were being asked to buy, and they saw what happened. The rep stayed in the room through the midpoint review, so the quote that followed matched what the customer had seen and what the data supported.
Run a guided trial in your own portal
The trial is free. If you upgrade and want help running it, onboarding starts from $2,500. See how it works on the Marketing Hub Professional guided trial page, or tell us what you need to market next.
