AI Agent

Also known as: Agentic AI

Short answer

An AI agent is software that uses a large language model to pursue a goal on its own: it plans steps, calls tools or APIs, checks results and keeps going until the task is done or it needs a person. In CRM, agents handle work like resolving service requests, qualifying leads and updating records.

AI Agent explained

A chatbot answers a question. An agent takes action. It is given a goal, a set of tools it may use (for example search the knowledge base, look up an account, create a case) and rules about when to stop or escalate. The model decides which tool to use at each step based on what it has learned so far.

Agent platforms include Salesforce Agentforce, HubSpot Breeze Agents, and agents built with Claude or OpenAI models connected to business systems through MCP. The hard parts are rarely the model: they are clean data, narrow scope, permissions and testing.

How Vantage Point helps: we design and build AI agents for specific, measurable jobs and put them through structured testing before they touch clients.

Frequently asked questions

What is agentic AI?

Agentic AI describes AI systems that act autonomously toward a goal, taking multiple steps and using tools, rather than producing a single answer to a single prompt.

Will AI agents replace CRM users?

In practice they take over repetitive steps, such as triage, data entry and first drafts, while people handle judgment, relationships and exceptions.
