Claude Skills

Short answer

Claude Skills are reusable packages of instructions, examples and files that teach Claude how to do a specific task the way your organization does it, such as building a proposal in your format or updating CRM records with a review step. Claude loads a skill when a task calls for it.

Claude Skills explained

A skill bundles a written procedure with templates, reference material and sometimes scripts. Instead of pasting the same long prompt every time, a team installs the skill once and Claude applies it consistently. Skills can be shared across an organization and combined with connectors, so a skill can read from HubSpot or Salesforce and follow your rules.

Skills complement Projects, which hold shared context for a body of work, and scheduled tasks, which run work automatically.

How Vantage Point helps: we build Claude skills for client firms, such as CRM updates with approval steps, proposal formats and compliance checks.

Frequently asked questions

How is a skill different from a prompt?

A prompt is typed for one conversation. A skill is a saved, reusable package of instructions and files that Claude applies whenever the task comes up.

Can a skill update Salesforce?

Yes, if Claude has a Salesforce connector. Good practice is to build in a review step before any record is changed.
