Dave Harrison SmithCFA

Executive Vice President / Chief Investment Officer

Curiosity, discipline, and a continuous drive for improvement have shaped Dave’s investment career since he joined Bailard in 2009. His work has spanned equity research, portfolio strategy, and the forces driving innovation—culminating in his appointment as Chief Investment Officer in 2025.

Today, Dave leads Bailard’s research teams across all asset classes and acts as co-portfolio manager for the firm’s technology strategies. His approach blends intellectual rigor with an instinct for innovation and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. From artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to long-term sector disruption, Dave has become a go-to voice in outlets like Nasdaq, Pensions & Investments, Cheddar, and Yahoo! Finance.

Dave holds a double major in business administration and economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder.

Originally from Portland, Maine, Dave is an avid sailor and kayaker who also enjoys distance running, traveling, and all things outdoors.
